Over 30 years ago, WaterRower designed something new — the first rowing machine to use water as resistance, capturing the rhythm and feel of rowing on the river. That same care and thinking still shapes every machine today.
Every model is handcrafted in the USA from sustainably sourced Appalachian hardwood. Finishes include British, Cherry, Club, Oak, Shadow, Vintage, and Walnut, each one chosen for its natural tone and timeless look.
WaterRower machines move smoothly, sound gentle, and look the part — a mix that works well in homes, studios and interiors where every detail counts.
As the official water rowing machine of British Rowing, WaterRower is trusted by clubs, coaches, and everyday rowers across the UK.

What Drives WaterRower
From the start, WaterRower was shaped by a different mindset — one that values calm over noise, craft over speed, and movement that feels connected rather than forced.
That vision came from John Duke, a former US national team rower, who combined his knowledge of the sport with a background in engineering.
The goal has never been just fitness. It’s about how the body moves, how the machine fits into its surroundings, and how people feel when they use it. There’s a belief that exercise can be steady, grounding, and part of the rhythm of daily life.
This thinking still guides everything WaterRower does. From sustainable materials to the way each machine is finished by hand, it’s an approach built on care, not shortcuts — and shaped by a long-standing respect for rowing, design and the spaces we live in.

Where the Design Comes From
WaterRower’s look is shaped by the same ideas behind its movement: clean, simple and free from distraction. The original design took inspiration from Shaker furniture, known for its honest materials, clear lines and everyday use.
Production began in Rhode Island, where it continues today. Skilled craftspeople shape and finish each machine by hand, just a few hours from the forests where the wood is grown.
There are no extra parts, no heavy frames or flashy finishes. Just a calm, balanced form where everything has a reason to be there. It’s a design that’s changed very little over time. It didn’t need to.

Why Rowing
Rowing moves the whole body in one steady rhythm. Legs, core, back and arms all work together, in a way that feels smooth and kind on the joints. It is quiet and focused, with no heavy impact or jarring rhythm. The motion is gentle and repeated, pull and return, over and over. Many choose rowing because it does a lot in one go. It helps with cardio, strength and stamina, and works for different ages and fitness levels. You can go fast or slow, short or long. It adapts as you go.
