A More Detailed Look at Body Composition
Step on most scales and you get one number for your whole body. Step on the RD-545HR and it splits that reading five ways: left arm, right arm, left leg, right leg and torso.
Why does that matter? Because your body doesn’t change evenly. Maybe your left leg is stronger than your right after an old injury, or your muscle mass is climbing in your arms but stalling everywhere else. A single overall figure hides all of that. The RD-545HR shows it to you, with separate readings for body fat, muscle mass and muscle quality across each area.

Segmental Analysis for Five Areas of the Body
Standard body composition scales read your electrical impedance through electrodes in the platform, so they only measure what's happening below your waist. The RD-545HR adds a hand grip with its own electrodes, which means the signal travels through your arms too. That's how it builds a full picture across five segments: left arm, right arm, left leg, right leg and torso, with individual results for body fat, muscle mass and muscle quality in each one.
Dual-Frequency BIA Technology
The RD-545HR reads your body composition using Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA), sending a safe, low-level electrical signal through your body and measuring the resistance it meets. Fat, muscle and water all resist that signal differently, and the scale uses those differences to calculate your results. Where the RD-545HR pulls ahead of basic scales is the two measuring frequencies it uses instead of one. That second frequency is what gives TANITA's Muscle Quality Score its accuracy, reading past how much muscle you have to how that muscle is actually behaving.
Track Your Results With the MyTANITA App
A single reading tells you where you stand today. A string of readings tells you where you’re heading. The free MyTANITA app takes every compatible measurement from the RD-545HR and lines them up, so you can watch the trend, not just the day. Switch between weekly, monthly and yearly views to see how your results have moved, or set your own goals and get a notification when you reach them. The app is available for both iPhone and Android.
Muscle Quality Alongside Muscle Mass
Muscle mass answers “how much?” Muscle Quality answers “how good?” TANITA calculates the second figure from the dual-frequency reading, looking at the condition of your muscle tissue as well as its size. You’ll get a score for your whole body and for each individual segment. That distinction counts if you’re lifting weights, coming back from time off training, or watching how your muscles hold up as you get older. Muscle mass can stay steady while quality drops, or the other way round, and you’d never spot that from mass alone.
Heart Rate as Part of the Picture
The HR in RD-545HR stands for exactly what you’d think: this version takes your heart rate alongside your body composition reading, for anyone between 5 and 99. Don’t want it? Turn it off in the settings and it won’t take a reading during your regular measurements.
One Scale, Four Personal Profiles
The RD-545HR can remember up to four people, with a separate memory slot for each person’s results. No phone to hand? It’ll hang onto up to 10 measurements until you’re ready to sync. Athlete Mode adjusts the calculations for adults training hard and often, and Guest Mode is handy when someone else wants to use the scale.

My best purchase ever
I was wowed by the scales from the second I unwrapped them from the box. The design is modern and fancy and certainly something to be proud of in the house. The scales are easy to connect to your I Phone and you are able to start taking measurements within minutes. I love the range of things it measures including BMI and heart rate. By saving my fitness journey and referring back to it on my phone gives me extra motivation to keep on track.

Perfect scales for anyone focused on fitness
After deciding it was time to focus on getting fit I was looking for a method to best track my progress. Having invested in digital scales before, this time, I was looking for a more detailed solution that could help guide me on the journey rather than just capture a snapshot.
These scales have really hit the spot.
Despite all the information they provide there are super easy to set up. Once you have downloaded the app, it takes you through the process. The level of detail is immense. I started with muscle quality measures, which have encouraged me to work out completely differently with a much more balanced workout regime focusing on all the muscle groups. Previously I focused on cardio, but have since moved to weights with a focus on legs.
As you track the progress in the app, you can really see the progress you are making from week to week, which really encourages you to keep pushing for improvement.
These scales have changed the way I work out. A great investment for anyone who is keen to improve there fitness.

Great scales for the health conscious
Great scales and well worth the investment if you're health conscious or starting out on a journey to become more health conscious. I love being able to track different metrics other than weight, which isn't a great indicator of health alone. For me, being able to see changes in percentage body fat and muscle growth and quality is super important as this is much more of an indicator for me than weight or BMI. The design of the scales is pretty similar to other digital scales out there, although I was worried these would be a little bulky due to the hand held sensor but this isn't the case. Well worth the investment.

Advanced Scales, easy to use!
I got these scales as I am trying to get on top of my health and get much fitter now I am in my forties. The product itself is really well manufactured and looks cool. It is sleek and easy to store. The metrics that the scales track are very thorough and cover everything you could want to know making it easy to identify improvement areas. I really liked that you just have to stand on and hold the handle and within a minute you have everything measured and it is reporting back through the app. Muscle quality was intriguing for me and show I have clear imbalances across my body that need addressing over time. The app is really useful and is helping me to deep dive quickly into all the key metrics and I like the fact it stores historical data points too so I can look back and see my improvements. I am very happy with the product and it has become a go to part of my routine three times a week to measure my progress!

On Balance these Scales are Great
I needed a new set of scales to help me better monitor some specific health conditions and improve my general health.
The scales are easy to get working straight from the box and provide the full range of data sets on my phone app immediately after use. Now there is no hiding place from my progress or lack thereof!
These scales are worth the initial investment given the wide range of data provided on body, limbs, torso etc and the ease with which Tanita have provided background information on each dataset and the flexibility for graphical display options.
These scales are worth displaying in your bathroom because they are attractive and they prompt you to keep focussing on your body and health management. The ease with which Tanita have enabled the data capture of more than 12 data sets for body, torso and limbs and integrated the transfer to your smartphone to allow you to analyse at your leisure is very impressive. The app is easy to use and it is surprising to find so much trend analysis at your fingertips. With each use of the scales you gain more understanding of the impact that exercise, diet and rest have on your goals and your progress to achieve them.
In conclusion the range of data available over time to inform your health goals is incredible and I’d recommend these scales to anyone who is looking to improve their health management.

I have had the tanita RD-545 HR scales for 3 weeks now and I'm so impressed with the quality and ease of use. There are so many features and are so easy to set up and use. The set up process was quick and easy. The scales easily connect to the app and give you so much information to track your results over time.
I like that there is also detailed meanings of what everything means with clear pictures for you to see where your reading sits based on your results. The charts in the app make it easy to track your progress and see the results at a glance
I also connected the app to Google fit and it transfers the info to keep track and updates automatically. The export feature in the app produces a PDF of your results on one page to see progress at a glance.
I love the muscle quality feature. I have recently started going to the gym and is a great way to track your progress. I've still got a long way to go to become fitter and healthier but the scales have given me the motivation I needed. Seeing the results easily has definitely helped me to be more focused on improving my overall health and not just losing weight.

Great scales, very thorough!
I was recommended Tanita scales by a close friend so I decided to give this body composition monitor a shot as I'm trying to become a bit more serious about my health and fitness as I get older.
First impressions were very positive as the scales are a very impressive (and heavy!) bit of kit. They look the part and look great next to my shower at home.
Set up was comprehensive and took a while but once set up and paired with my phone the fun began. The amount of different results is pretty mind blowing and the presentation both on the scales and then the app (and also as a pdf export should you want that) was really good.
I did also like the special touch of the scales gretting my by name when you turn them on.
It wasn't always plain sailing as connectivity with my phone (android) app and pairing were a little unreliable but apart that I've been very happy with this purchase and have been showing it off to friends when they come visit.

Professional scales, precision engineering.
I have had these scales for approximately 3 weeks now, using them every day. They were a little hard to understand at first as the instructions weren’t that clear. Once you get the hang of them, which is quite logical, they are amazing. The weighing process takes about 90 seconds, but everything is measured. It is not just your weight, it includes your body fat percentage, muscle mass, bone weight, water content and BMI. The information given even shows you which parts your body need to be improved with muscle and strength and which don’t. I have found the figures given to be motivational in losing weight and gaining strength. The scales remember your previous measurements and provide a graph so that you can gauge your progress. It has a feature which lets you allow others to create their own profile so they can check their progress too independently of yours. This is a great product.
